Ahhh… everyone’s favorite time of year is returning.
Officially, Spring arrives Friday, March 20, 2026, at 9:46 AM, and with it comes that wonderful feeling that life is waking up again. The days get longer, the sun feels warmer, and suddenly the world seems full of possibilities. It’s time to get up off the couch, brush the crumbs off your sweats, run a comb through your hair, and get ready for a brand-new season.
Winter is over, baby!
Now, if you’re like me, you might not feel completely ready yet. Maybe winter left a little emotional clutter lying around. Maybe your energy feels a bit heavy or stagnant. Don’t fret. I’ve got you.
The Spring Equinox is the perfect time to reset your energy, clear out the old, and prepare yourself for the good things coming your way. Let’s start with the first priority.
Spring Equinox Energy Reset: Clear Out the Old

Nature teaches us an important lesson every spring. New growth is much easier if last year’s leaves aren't still covering the ground. The same thing happens in our lives. Before we rush out to plant new dreams, goals, and projects, it helps to clear away the emotional and energetic debris that winter tends to leave behind.
Sometimes that means releasing a disappointment that’s been hanging around too long.
Sometimes it means evicting someone—or something—that’s been living rent-free in your head. And sometimes it means forgiving yourself for not letting it go sooner.
A great place to start is with physical cleaning. Stale energy loves clutter. It hides in piles of old papers, overstuffed closets, and corners that haven’t seen daylight in months.
Open the windows and air the place out. Let fresh air move through your space and imagine it bringing in bright, clean, cheerful energy while pushing the stale stuff out the door. Energy doesn’t technically need an open window to leave, but it sure helps your left brain visualize the process. So crack a window, open a door, and hold the intention that the old energy leaves through that opening. If you’ve got a fan handy, turn it on. Moving air helps move energy too.
But one of the most powerful ways to clear out all that old energetic “ick” is something humans have been doing for centuries. Smudging.
Clearing Old Energy with Smudging

Smudging is an ancient practice used by many cultures to clear negative or stagnant energy from spaces, objects, and even people.
Burning sacred herbs such as sage, palo santo, or cedar releases cleansing smoke that helps shift the energetic atmosphere around you. When used with intention, smudging can transform the feeling of a space quickly.
During the Spring Equinox, this ritual becomes even more meaningful because it mirrors what nature is already doing—clearing out the old so new life can emerge.
Here’s a simple way to do it.
Smudging Simplified
Take a moment to center yourself and say a prayer of protection. You’re stirring up old energy, so it’s always a good idea to shield yourself first.
Open windows or doors to give that stagnant energy somewhere to go.
Light your smudge stick and let the smoke rise for a moment.
Then gently guide the smoke through your space using your hand or a feather.
Pay special attention to:
corners
closets
doorways
rooms that feel heavy or uncomfortable
You can also cleanse your personal energy by guiding the smoke around your body, starting at your feet and moving upward.
Smudging isn’t just about waving smoke around a room. It’s about setting a clear intention that the old energy leaves and something better takes its place. Think of it as spiritual spring cleaning. When you clear space energetically, the Universe has somewhere to put the good stuff.
Make Room for the New
Once you’ve cleared the energetic clutter, something interesting tends to happen.
Your mind feels lighter.
Your space feels calmer.
And suddenly it becomes easier to imagine new possibilities.
That’s when you start planting the seeds of what you actually want.
Maybe it’s more peace.
Maybe it’s better relationships.
Maybe it’s new opportunities or creative ideas that have been waiting patiently for your attention.
The Spring Equinox reminds us that life is always moving forward. Every year, the earth resets itself and begins again. We can do the same thing.
